I just want to make sure that I understand the caption requirement clearly. So this is my understanding.if I deliver my class using a Zoom meeting or in-person class, I am supposed to record the whole class sessions. and then recordings of those sessions should be available to all of my students after sessions are over. Those recordings need to be accompanied closed captions. But I do not need to worry about live caption during my synchronous online session (via Zoom) or recording of my in-person teaching.Am I correct?

08:01
for later Q and A session…

09:03
Yung Soo's question is very important. Is his understanding accurate? This is the first time I've heard of it.

10:54
live caption is not necessary.

13:40
I have requested that one of my classes be switched from an in-person class to a hybrid. If it’s not switched, do I need to get someone’s approval to do split enrollment or can I just go ahead and start figuring out how I’m going to split up the class?

15:38
Chas — you can split something listed as traditional. That’s fine. It doesn’t need to show as “hybrid” for you to split your classes.

20:09
Are we required to provide the recordings of our in-person classes?

22:17
If videos are uploaded to YuJa, YuJa will automatically create captioning for them

23:10
If instructors were scheduled for sections after the survey was submitted (e.g. PTIs or schedule changes), can they request modality changes?

23:49
Yes-they can request them, Troy. But we’re locked in making changes at this time in the system until we get the rooms set.

24:03
They just need to communicate with their unit heads.

24:22
If we have students arrive on days they aren’t scheduled for, how do we handle that (wait and see if there’s room for them or send them away).

26:04
Good question: I’d suggest giving a little leeway at the start as students are figuring it out. But we will need to be firm that they can’t flex their days without your permission because of the limits.

26:43
Is there a particular person or contact at the International Student and Scholar Services to send students who are unsure if they will be able to come to campus because of travel restrictions?

26:43
Jen, personally from having done scheduled meeting and workshop times I would recommend having them come back on the day they were scheduled b/c students may come late and you don’t want to create a scenario where they are grouping up to wait and see if there are in person spaces.

27:23
Where is the link for the FAQ document?

27:38
Meredith, re International Students: The first step is let’s send our majors to our advisers to start.

28:44
Derek — the FAQ that I sent out to CI-ALL. I don’t have it linked yet, as it’s just on my computer. I’ll ask Catherine to load it up.

29:56
Is there a planned virtual meeting with all students prior to start of class to review logistics/requirements/etc allowing them to ask questions?

30:45
Doug — good question. I don’t know of anything university wide. But it might be a good thing for us to do for our majors.

31:06
Will the policies have suggested language to use in the syllabus?

31:21
I know they’re orienting our incoming freshmen and transfers in KWeek activities, but not for all students that I know of.

31:25
Will. they have guidelines on what students should consider being symptomatic and what students with chronic symptoms should do?

31:52
David — yes — this will have the language you can drop into your syllabus for these policies.

32:21
Is there an expectation that faculty also download the tracing app?

33:00
Yes — Kyra — through the daily screening app. They will have to report through the app. If they have symptoms, they will be directed what to do and not allowed to attend class unless they are clear. (Brandi is saying all of this now).

33:04
:)

33:18
Yes - faculty and staff are supposed to use the app as well.

33:24
will graduate students be tested? I know the university said faculty and staff would not be

33:39
Yes — all students on campus will be tested

33:45
When will we be given instructions about where to download the app?

33:49
thank you

33:49
Online students would not need to be as they don’t come to campus.

34:08
Yep. It’s about to launch. It’s pretty cool.

34:16
Re the app.

34:32
Sorry Jennifer I was unclear is there guidance for students with chronic illness like those who have frequent headaches or coughing or will that go through DRC?

34:42
Will the requirement for students needing DRC accommodations prior to the semester start still be in effect? Wondering for students who have chronic illness/at-risk circumstances.

34:49
Because those students will

34:55
Fail the app regularly as symptomatic

34:58
If we are teaching in class, is there a place we should go to get tested?

35:05
Kyra — yes, if they have chronic conditions, they should go to the DRC.

35:15
THank you!

35:59
If we have a student who tests positive, will we be asked to quarantine?

36:35
Amanda - it will depend on the risk/level of exposure. this will be communicated to you by the contact tracing team

36:49
Thank you!

37:05
I believe we will be getting info on where faculty and staff can get tested (through UK health). We are waiting on more info, but they did commit to having access to faculty and staff who need/want tests.

38:48
Will each room have a microphone to help amplify our voices behind masks or is it on a room-by-room basis?

39:20
Will there still be lobby area furniture for students to use or will they be removed? I’m thinking about the chairs on the 3rd floor of Little.

39:33
This might be in the facilities document, but do we know if elevators are going to be off limits? Kind of impossible to distance in an elevator unless you're on it alone.

39:42
Yes, interested in Jen’s question on microphones.

39:47
Jen Smith - it will depend on the classroom - IT is updating as many rooms as possible

40:04
Are we going to receive face shields still, or are we only receiving masks now?

40:17
And we can get a mic if needed in classes that don’t have them. We see what’s needed.

40:30
Brandi-so do we have some road tested individual mic set ups that we can buy and use as Bluetooth so the students can hear us?

40:53
William — face shields — we have ordered from College of Design. I will check on those next week. We ordered 40 of them to start.

41:01
Kakie - these might be better questions for some of our tech support.

41:44
Do we need to report the hours we expect to be in the office?

42:46
any discussion about HVAC and air flow ? I know that is problematic in many buildings

43:10
Yes — Facilities has a whole team on that issue right now (HVAC).

44:05
FYI Zoom trick: If you want to refer to this chat later, you can click on the 3 little dots in the bottom right corner to save the chat. I just learned this trick this week! I plan to use it to track student participation in discussion =)

44:22
Great tip Brandi!

44:57
The FAQs are posted on our Coronavirus Update site under Faculty Resources header. Also here: https://ci.uky.edu/ci/sites/default/files/Faculty%20Forum%20Q%26A%207.24.pdf

45:11
Brandi- would you mind sending out a copy of the final chat? I’m on my phone and can’t save it.

45:18
Thanks to Josh

45:23
no problem!

45:29
thanks!

47:19
Would the same apply to TA’s? What if TA’s and/or their children get sick?

48:06
Thank you for your clarification.

48:11
Thank you.

53:18
Are those paid overloads or unpaid overloads

54:12
Will there be presence on campus as well as Telehealth possibilities for mental health and counseling for students this Fall (Counseling Center)? I am wondering in the event faculty or staff need to refer a student in need.

54:44
All student services are expected to have a "dual mode of services" so I suspect there will be a presence for those services

54:52
Thanks, Brandi!

55:44
Mary Chandler Bolin head of Counseling told me they have hired extra counselors

56:07
Kakie, thank you—that is great news.

56:57
Just to be sure… A: in-class meetings are not required to recorded… B: no live captions for synchronous online meeting?

58:19
Both Zoom and YuJa can automatically generate captions - Zoom for cloud recordings, YuJa when you upload

58:45
I am an Echo admin, I can answer any questions about Echo

58:55
How about pre- recorded sessions? should they have captions?

59:12
An OWL camera is a high end webcam that will record to Zoom

59:34
Thanks, Chris!

59:38
I can get that list from Rex

59:41
The Zoom captions allow you to edit after and it is very easy to fix errors. You just need to re-listen to your recording. You can have your settings set up to automatically transcribe

01:00:01
Thank you Chris, that helps on OWL. Also, our Echo 360 rep says that you can buy your own Echo 360 camera if your classroom is not equipped.

01:00:04
I am

01:00:24
You can use Echo Personal Capture and upload your own videos to the Echo servers

01:00:33
Can we schedule one of these meetings after classes start to discuss how things are going? Maybe sharing hearings/insights/etc?

01:01:41
This meeting is very helpful. Thanks you so much!

01:01:44
Thanks for the info everyone!

01:01:48
thanks!

01:01:48
Thank you all so much!

01:01:52
Thank you, all!
